Past three in the afternoon and we were at Gourdo’s already, the wifey and I thought we needed to be there early at the venue of the first Instagram Manila Instameet. A table arrangement for 20, which I reserved ahead, was nicely set up, but we took the lounge chairs near the glass facade window, so we can take pictures and see who’s coming. The iced tea we ordered lasted about 30 minutes, and the Beer Battered Chicken Fingers were gone in a snap before we realized it’s been almost two hours of waiting!
While I was expecting the turnout, the wifey’s the one really disappointed. So many of her IG friends initially confirmed but canceled at the last minute. I took over the organizing of the venue (it was preset and coincides with Instagram’s official date) because I thought I didn’t want to skip being in the “first” meet-up. It seems we wasted our time so we thought of making it an insta-date! I jokingly proclaimed that we only need another Instagram’er to make it officially an instameet, making us three. The wifey and I are about to leave when a backpacked-guy rushed in. @zerepcram or Marc Perez, a DLSU engineering-masters student, made it. He was shy but the wifey talked him out of it by sharing first-timer stories of iPhone photography, getting followers you really don’t know personally but are friends with anyway, the apps used to bring out the best in photos new and old, and hooking up with fellow Pinoy IGers from around the globe. We ordered pizza and we’re insta-meeting away, and then came @lexmnl or Lex Manuel, a contact center professional who made his “mahiwagang sapatos” popular in IG, followed later by @faiye or Faiye Del Rosario, who designs shirts, known for her daily “what-I-wore” and advice tea photos.
There was no WIFI at Gourdo’s but because of the Personal Hotspot feature of iPhone 4, I was able to share my 3G connection. Then we were chatting, taking pictures, applying our favorite filters, and liking/commenting, I even had my first photo on the Instagram popular page, an unlikely, uninteresting snapshot of the pizzas we ordered. Here are some of the photos:

The Fab 5 Pinoy IGers
My first photo making it to the popular page!
@zerepcram lends the early bird prize to @lexmnl – an iPhone 4 case, congrats!
We had fun, the five of us, though we had to leave because the cafe was closing at 10PM, but we continued on with snapping photos. The Fab 5 Instagram’ers we were tagged.
And so the Fab 5 made the long wait worth it, the #ManilaInstameet being the first, and us tagged in it. Looking forward to the next one.
