Let the love shine

This is a nice horoscope to jumpstart my workweek:

Even if you aren't always emotionally expressive, you are sincerely interested in the well-being of everyone in your life. Today, however, your feelings can be transformed into little actions, which clearly demonstrate what's in your heart. Let the love shine through in all that you do for others.
We Librans are externally deadma but deep inside we think of nothing but love (and making it) hehehe.

It's 4am I must be lonely

Either I'm getting old or putting on more weight, I sleep shorter hours and wake up earlier than usual. I'm in my mid-30s and will soon sing life begins at 40 but I couldn't help but think have I been there and done that? Not exactly how I want to be asked, but suddenly, when it's 4am and everyone else's snoring, you're quick to think that you're all alone, waiting to be wasted.

Welcome to the death highway

EDSA is supreme when it comes to traffic. But EDSA (or any other thoroughfare) is nothing compared to Commonwealth Avenue's wealth of driving hazards, thanks to its more famous name death highway.

If your daily drive or commute is via this widened road in Quezon City, consider these obstacles:

  • non-reflectorized concrete barriers or signs you hardly notice day or night time
  • pedestrians crossing anywhere, anyhow
  • overloaded motorcycles left and right, cutting or overtaking carelessly
  • buses (no matter the size) swerving in 'king of the road' terrorizing speed
  • jeepneys loading and unloading anywhere, anyhow
  • new U-turn slots covering 2-3 lanes (and that irritating pink fences)

There might be more I missed mentioning, but what's worst, there's no police visibility here.

Our car was once bumped by another car that appeared (unnoticed) from a no-u-turn slot (right after the St. Peter church)--good thing my driver steered quickly that our front left wheel mag was bumped instead (undamaged), while the culprit dented his bumper (good thing it's Nissan plastic), who later approached us very apologetic (he smelled of liquor). No police or MMDA personnel around. Nothing bad happened but it was a terrible experience, at least for me, that every time we pass by that area, I would hold my breath (pedestrians, kids mostly, rushing to cross appear instead).

Commonwealth avenue, if the government even cares about the voters passing through it, truly is one hell of a (daily) ride. Guerrilla or defensive driving is best practiced here, or you might end up adding to the rising statistics of unnecessary death highway casualties.

When 'deadma' is the order of the day

And in all your unsuspecting demeanor, you find out somebody's sleeping on the job and forgot to not reveal proof of lack of competence. When you're too good a boss, you probably aren't for keeping them. Either them or me who's deadma.

February dilemma

What special gift? Where to go? What to do (after)? What unique message? The February dilemma if you ask me, making it all the more exciting, something to look forward to like Christmas.

It's all for the love of love--it's Saint Valentine's Day. What makes my every 14th-Feb special is that it happens to be my wife's birthday!

I hope to do something different this year--hitback-college-joyride. We went to the same university and it played witness to our friendship, which later on blossomed to a love-to-love relationship we just can't get enough.

Got the text, did you?

Whiling time at a videoke joint in Quezon City, it's my wife who actually got this strange SMS last night, forwarded by our friend from NHA (National Housing Authority):

And as if by strange coincidence, on our way home we saw SWAT trucks at White Plains, and passed by checkpoints in Fairview--I did think to myself 'what's going on, another coup-what-have-you?'

Whether hoax or not, let's all be cautious.

Ash Wednesday

We're all dust, and to dust we'll end up--it's Ash Wednesday, commit to a personal sacrifice--eat fish and for once drop that vice.

Your religion will not change nor save you

Never trust somebody who fakes faith over money worship--that's a hard lesson I've learned early this week.

I (and a few others who knew) was shocked to have found out how you used your religion to cover up how you value cash more than relationships. No wonder, you never made it.

Bless you, and I'm sorry but your religion, though a nice cover, will not distort the truth nor save you.

Holidays aftershock

It's been a while. What have I been busy with? Well, the carefully planned holiday activities turned out to be just that--a careful plan. But it's festive as is usually expected.

Avoiding panic shopping was useless, we're on it almost everyday. Gifts that needed wrapping were on queue but sweep right on schedule. Food--I love and hate it--gave me an inch of hard-to-hide bulges. The likable weather were the typically unpredictable cold--reminded me of winter in Brazil--wishing it's the year-round breeze of mountain fresh air. My kids were too busy with PC gaming they hardly notice vacation's over until that sleepy Monday morning. Each day after Christmas and New Year's eve I would ask my wife for 'proper' food--that's neither fried nor swimming in tomato sauce--they're all delicious but'll soon taste the same: sweet, creamy/saucy and fat. Friends, neighbors, relatives, colleagues texting and greeting you cheers for the holidays is like the email with the red exclamation point--reminds you not to ignore them. I welcomed 2008 by finally getting done with the thickest Harry Potter book (The Order of the Phoenix) and then watching the DVD then later searching online for details of the next movie only to spoil the excitement of reading the 6th book. The Simpsons movie, which my kids have been watching a couple of times already, made us roar--in laughter--reminds me how Bart Simpson I am (and how now my kids are likely). Sad-lightly, I haven't gotten any of my I-Must-Haves, not that they're too important.

These are Kodak and MasterCard moments I'd keep--precious, priceless.

I-Must-Have #4 - Harry Potter Eyeglasses

Yes, I want that wire-rimmed eyeglasses worn by Harry Potter. But of course not the toy!

The pair I'm using right now is giving me afternoon headaches. It's also rounded, but kind of makes me look nerdy (it's made of titanium by Dior though). I need a new one that's 500-strong (former's 475).

Is this how addicted I have become of the wizard boy? Harry Potter has become some sort of the rekindled kid in me--reminds me of how I used to imagine myself having magical powers (like pretend-flying in my towel-cape, using a short bamboo stick as sword or wand, with friends battling in our own version of 'taya-tayaan' or 'patintero'). Besides the books, the movies got me (and my kids) hooked, only recently though.

Silly, I needn't look like Harry Potter.

Makati's the place to be

Just as I started the day with the same old cold and wet, looks like I'll be trapped in Makati as it is again the center of everyone's attention thanks to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV--I think Makati's he's favorite hang-out, really.

Is this an unforgettable sad affair?

I'm not trying to be Dr. Love, as I'm not, never did and will never be, but I hope both of you come across this.

We are not the same but we can be the same in faith and hope. You envy our oneness, but you've proven yours in the many years you've shared one roof together. Oneness, togetherness, coexisting--they sound easy to say but even harder to appreciate. You only do when you realize that letting go is getting yourself together--confusing but true--you'll have to love yourself before you can muster enough courage to share its meaning with another.

Love is a strong word, it doesn't happen everyday, but it's always there waiting to happen every possible way.

You think you lost it when you had a brush with solitude--what with loads of money to push it harder on you--remember everything here's temporary, including our mere existence. It's never too late to realize what being honest will do to your well being, and if you let it be, will guide you through to what you think are unresolvable puzzles of life.

Don't fret--while you have coexisted with him for so long you lost your self-worth, it's high time you think of yourself above else as he strongly suggested. Yours is not a fight to be won, but a relationship to be built and grown, yet is too weak and distant now to get you both going. If one says to let go, so be it. Let go and catch yourself falling--it's never easy but you'll soon realize there are more treasures than trash in times like this. It's a blessing this has been uncovered early on, what if it took a decade? Don't you think it's best now or never? I'm sure you already know what I mean.

It's an unforgettable sad affair but forgivable. It started but will soon end. Imagine how strong you'll be after this storm, I envy you by simply hanging on. Just like us, your sad affair will be harder to accept than you think it is.

I'd end by saying don't stop believing--love, sweetness and hope is everywhere you hardly noticed. After all this I'd still tell you about that famous footbridge tag line I see everyday--pray it works.

Fakey Nokia N95

Don't be fooled as they're at it again, this time cloning Nokia's premium Nseries model called N95.

Knock-offs of the N95 are everywhere. I saw this a few weeks ago when I was watching Bitag at IBC 13 on a lazy Saturday late afternoon, where they caught/arrested a guy peddling this N95 copycat.

Obviously from China, this NOKLA N95 (replacing 'I' with 'L') can be easily mistaken for the original at first glance. Click here for a comparison, photo from this site.

As an owner of an original Nokia N95, I must say--caveat emptor!

Mid-Afternoon Suffrage

I did cast my vote, few minutes before its supposed closing time.

I was forcing sleep after lunch to rid of my 4-day old sneezing and coughing but by my wife's prodding I promptly went up in unpressed clothes and proceeded to the nearby school for our not-to-miss-duty to practice our right of choice, that is who we'll seat at the Barangay Hall.

As usual, this election was no better than the last--youngsters giving out campaign materials at the gate, candidates shaking hands with the who's-who, vendors and poll watchers everywhere, people roaming around looking names, with police presence that's no good at all. Though we'd usually find my (and my wife's) name after only a few classroom/list scanning, we'd spend more time lining up than casting our ballots.

I think we just had enough it's about time we get serious on automating our electoral system--it will benefit most of all the voters--what politicians have been baiting all this time.

Librans' Today

Here's what Rick Levine has to say for what Librans can expect today:

You are often the most sociable one, but with the Moon in your 4th House of Home, you may do well to pass on the party invitation now. Instead of playing with your friend, pay attention to family matters. If you really must be social, meet a friend for lunch or just spend a bit of extra time at work talking with others at the water cooler.
Key definitions:
  • Moon in your 4th House of Home - your pocket's getting harder to dig in
  • water cooler - do the socializing in your pantry over snacks or lunch
Quickie interpretation: Quit after-office gimmicking as you are close to exhausting your measly budget long before the next payday; instead stay home and watch Koreanovela-bombarded television with your loved ones.

Disclaimer: I don't have any horoscope-ing expertise at all (lol).

What's up with ERJHS Batch '89 Graduates

Thanks to Friendster.com, our classmates (and batch mates) from Eulogio Rodriguez Jr. High School of Quezon City (1989) are getting connected again.

While some are now based outside PI, most are, well, here (or just around the archi as they say). Some I've exchanged SMS with have made themselves visibly famous in the industry they've delved into. Others got what we've all been dreaming of back then--a happy family.

If any of you reads this, please get in touch--my email's carl@cclozano.com and my mobile's 0921-819-6294 or add me to your Friendster account. Melissa Cabalic (Yoyongtians), along with some of our pilot section classmates, is cooking up a reunion sortie soon.

See yah!

My daily Libra horoscope

From Rick Levine of Tarot.com:

Your key planet Venus is somewhat uncomfortable now that it's in aloof Virgo and your hidden 12th House. You may think that you're being totally honest, but leaving out inconvenient data can be a form of deception. Unfortunately, this is not a permanent solution to a problem, for avoidance only makes matters worse in the long run. Take a risk and bring your fears out into the open.
Quick interpretation, in just two words--DON'T LIE--(lol). More interpretations follow:
  • Venus - you
  • aloof Virgo - on a hot seat
  • hidden 12th House - significant other?
  • inconvenient data - white lies
Disclaimer: I don't believe in horoscopes--I simply don't get it (lol).

Kurt's Hot Wheels

The 2006 Honda Civic is perfect for a Hot Wheels toy! Aside from its futuristic design and head-turning looks, it exudes what most Filipino motorists desire from an everyday car--speed and style in one. Also, as I've learned from my dad, the 2006 Honda Civic happens to be the Car of the Year 2007.

This is my son Kurt's entry to the Hot Wheels Giveaway contest by K-Zone (Summit Media) which won him this Hot Wheels toy. I wonder what he's up to next...
