Posers' and losers' coffee fix

I have never (craved/felt so addicted to) cold coffee than today--what with the sweltering summer wave striking as early as 10 in the morning.

I once thought, people lining up at posh coffee shops are either posers or losers--passing precious hours chit-chatting, flicking cigarettes butt after butt, sipping frosted, cream-topped, chocolate-chipped coffee, like its commercial rice that's too expensive you're RICH simply for being seen having it. Did that thought ever go away?

The soft-leather couches, jazz music, and ambient surrounding add to the relaxing vibe--hear its animated patrons (mostly young, call center dudes) laughing out loud, texting (or snapping camphone pictures), and getting closer/cozier--you'd think these are lucky people you can't help but envy.

Neither a poser or loser, I gave in to coffee's allure, never mind that I was never unlucky.

Real Chefs: A Documentary

The special screening of Real Chefs: A Documentary by Shop TV and Gourdo's Inc. at the Cinema 2 of Greenbelt 1. Later that evening, Gourdo's World Market (at Greenbelt 2) had its ribbon-cutting ceremonies and opened its doors to guests (and walk-in customers).

All smiles--I, with Jessica and Love, enjoyed the film--it showcased our very own chefs as they work their way in bagging the gold team competition in last year's HOFEX (an international food and hospitality tradeshow in Hong Kong). Need not be a gourmand to appreciate the documentary, it was funny and entertaining (I could hear my stomach grumbling 'dinner, it's late').

At Gourdo's World Market

Got an invite on the special screening of Real Chefs: A Documentary at Cinema 2 of Greenbelt 1 today, which will be followed by the opening of Gourdo's World Market in Esperanza Street at Greenbelt 2.

I've a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) and it's a shame I don't cook (it's the wife's territory I'm not crossing) but I'm looking forward to this event. Food, drink, and music do mix (as indicated in the perfumed stationery) and is probably the bigger reason I'm coming.

First taste of Muslim food - Ja

One of my new agents, who happens to be Chinese but is Islam, had me taste what they call 'Ja' or 'kinulot' in Tagalog.

It tasted like fried noodles only it's sweet.

I finished a roll, while the rest were gobbled down by agents who were more curious than me.

Styro-full of fast-food junk

Today I ate a late lunch at Jollibee in Pasay. I ordered their Super Meal, rewarding myself with a feast of palabok, sauted corn bits with carrots, crispy chicken strips, rice, and fruit salad.

It did look delicious in its big styro, but my palate disagreed otherwise. It tasted like hospital food, save for the rice which I guess can't be faked. I wanted to complain and return the food, but then seeing the long queue of customers, with all their service crews looking all-so-ready-to-help in their catchy spiels and co-crew call-outs 'assist, please' I thought twice. I might get the stares and 'ang arte naman' comments I didn't want to waste my time and energy.

Really, I wanted to eat like the French--graciously enjoying every bite, savoring all the combined flavors--but I guess when you're left with no choice but to eat at a fast-food joint, you can't do anything but eat fast--and forget about dining pleasure. I'm sure they'd (the fast-food empire) say we cater to the 'masa.'

Well, anyone can be 'masa' but that doesn't mean when we're hungry and in a hurry, we'll get our poor stomach full of junk.
